 a) Avoid eye contact and hope the other person will not recognize you?
 
 b) Say "Hi." Getting across the point that, yes, you recognize them, but you
    don't really want to spend the time remembering from where and what whacky
    circumstances brought you together (especially if you can't remember their
    names) or what you are doing with your life now, especially if you are the
    night janitor at Taco Bell and they are working as a Guru at WayCool
    NetSpammers over the hill, or worse, IN Santa Cruz, making a gazillion more
    dollars per hour than you?
 
 c) Say "Hi! Aren't you account <myimlarge|giggles|deathpuke|bivixen|nolife>
    from way back in <198X|199X> (in a voice not too loud but somewhere between
    4 and 6 on the Vangerov scale, [no offense intended here, Dave, but you do
    sometimes have a rather loud, piercing voice, and are well known by the
    people this question is intended for enough to base a common scale upon]
    where 5 is the level at which people around you look at you with confused
    smile thinking "Look Out! Geeks!") Remember me? I'm account <aaron12|
